Cambodia FAQ

The local currency in Cambodia is the Cambodian Riel (KHR), but US Dollars are widely accepted throughout the country, especially in tourist areas. In fact, many prices are quoted in USD, and you’ll often receive small change in riel. Credit cards are accepted in hotels, larger restaurants, shopping centres and some tour operators in major cities. However, cash is still essential for markets, small businesses and rural areas, so it’s advisable to carry some USD or riel with you.
Visa requirements for Cambodia depend on your nationality, but most travellers do need a visa to enter. Many nationalities can obtain a Visa on Arrival (valid for 30 days) at major airports and land borders, or apply in advance for an e-Visa online via the official Cambodian government website.
There are no compulsory vaccinations for most travellers. The only exception is if you are arriving from (or transiting through) a country with a risk of yellow fever, in which case proof of vaccination may be required.
Cambodia is generally considered safe for solo and female travellers, particularly in popular areas such as Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. Many travellers visit independently without issue. As with any destination, it’s important to take normal precautions.
