- Legend of Leamsak day trip: Visit the fishing community of Leam Sak, canoe amongst the limestone caves, see the prehistoric Homo sapiens wall paintings in Chao Lay Cave and see how the villagers built a floating farm to raise lobster and grapefruit seaweed. The origins of the province’s greatest hand-cooked shrimp paste can also be traced back to here.
- Lanta Romantic: The island of Koh Lanta is about a two-hour journey south of Krabi. It’s a pristine island with numerous spas for recharging your batteries. - Hoi Chuk Teen (Sea Snail) – served as an appetizer in a seashell, this delicious steamed meat is best eaten with Thai seafood chili sauce.
- Phanom Jean Nam Ya Pla is a mains dish of soft rice noodles served with a thick sea fish curry, a bowl of fresh local veggies and small pieces of fried fish.
- Roti is a Krabi treat consisting of fried dough topped with condensed milk, chocolate or fruits. Absolutely delicious!
Best nightlife: The Hua Sapan street food center is the city’s best dining point. It offers a large variety of fresh seafood dishes as well as regional cuisine at reasonable prices. The Krabi Night Bazaar next door, is the best spot to go for souvenirs and trendy clothing. The Ao Nang Center is the best place to go for sundowner cocktails, live entertainment and the late-night party.
Best time to visit: The best season to visit Krabi is from November to February when the average temperature is 28 degrees Celsius, there are cool breezes and the sky is usually clear. This tropical environment is actually a year-round destination, ideal for island hopping and relaxing on the beach.
Top tip: Visit in November during the evening of Loy Krathong for an unforgettable spiritual moment. People gather around lakes, rivers and canals to pay respects to the goddess of water by releasing beautiful lotus-shaped rafts, decorated with candles, incense and flowers onto the water. Krabi has also recently launched a tourism campaign called “The City of Art” to bring the traditional artists and neo artists to a street experience at Klong Muang beach at the weekends. It serves as a gathering place for artisans and art lovers to exchange knowledge and enjoy beautiful art.
