Slovenia is home to one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, Lake Bled, and some of the best ski resorts in Europe. Value is also excellent, on and off the slopes. Our local travel expert in Slovenia, Atlas Express, recommends the following options for a memorable skiing trip:
- Ramada Resort Hotel is situated at the foot of the ski slope in Kranjska Gora. This resort offers panoramic mountain views, wellness facilities and endless possibilities to refresh the body and mind. It features an indoor pool, hot tub and four saunas. Swimming in the glazed water park in the middle of the ski slope is an unforgettable experience, especially in the winter. Close by, take on a world championship slalom, the ski jumps at Planica or snowboard at Arnolstain Monte Lussari. You can also enjoy sledding, ice-skating, tobogganing, ski touring, snowshoeing and more. Take a trip to nearby Lake Bled – it’s magical in winter with its glacial lake and a small island.
- Hotel Kompas is situated on a small hill right in the heart of Bled. Built in the original Alpine style, it blends harmoniously with the natural environment, which is characterised by high plateaus and the peaks of the Julian Alps. Hotel guests are served lavish breakfasts, pampered with delicacies from the self-service buffet in the evenings, and treated attentively by the hotel staff.
- Ramada Hotel and Suites is located just 100m away from the ski slopes and offers a beautiful view of the Julian Alps. All the rooms are comfortably furnished and well equipped. The hotel offers a cosy but tasty food experience and has an Italian pizzeria with wood-fired pizzas and a London tearoom. A free local area shuttle can take you shopping.
Getting there: This area is only a 50-minute drive from Slovenia International Airport Jože Pučnik in Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital city. The road is mostly motorway.
Best time to visit: To be able to enjoy the snow and the most fun snow activities, we recommend you visit in December, January, February, and depending on the season March as well.
Special events
- In March, the picturesque valley of Planica hosts the largest sporting and entertainment spectacle in Slovenia – the finals of the Ski Jumping World Cup.
- Lake Bled in December is exceptionally festive. Stroll around the lakeshore promenade, stop at Christmas stalls and taste traditional Upper Carniola dishes and delicious hot drinks.
- During December, a medieval dance with the Lord of the Manor takes place three times in Bled castle.
- At Lake Bled in early February you can watch the winter swimming world championship at Mala Zaka on the lakeshore. Contestants from different countries swim in the cold lake.
